What: Groundbreaking ceremony for SUNY Empire State College’s $10 million LEED-silver regional facility

When: 1-2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16.

Who: Merodie A. Hancock, president, SUNY Empire State College; state Assembly Majority Leader Joseph D. Morelle; state Sen. Joseph E. Robach; Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks; Town of Brighton Supervisor William W. Moehle; students, faculty and staff from the college, business and community leaders

Why: Located in the Town of Brighton, the college’s $10 million, 30,000-square-foot, two-story regional facility will expand educational access and opportunity for the people who live, work and learn in the greater Genesee Valley communities.

The college anticipates occupying the facility, which is designed to meet U.S. Green Building Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver specifications, during February 2016.
