What SUNY Empire expects from you

Pride in your educational journey

Your degree is the key to unlocking your personal and professional goals, and we take it as seriously as you do. Here, you’re not just a student—you’re a partner in crafting an academic experience that gets you where you want to go. Bring your motivation and ambition, your curiosity and willingness to ask for help. We’ll be there with you every step of the way.

Active and thoughtful participation

Share your ideas and perspective—and benefit from those of others—through active engagement with instructors and fellow students. You’ll have opportunities to connect in course discussions, in online and social media forums and, in certain cases, in-person course activities and college-wide events.

Proactive and ongoing communication with your mentor

Developing a close working relationship with your faculty mentor/advisor is the best way to ensure that your mentor understands your goals. It’s also the best way to ensure that you get access to the courses, tools and resources that will help you meet them. Here, mentorship is a partnership—a two-way street that relies upon trust and communication.

Tip for Online Learning Success:

Set aside a dedicated study time and place. Most of our students who work while earning their degree take two classes (eight credit hours) per term. You can generally expect to spend 10 hours per week per class between readings, assignments and class discussions.
