The Office of the Registrar: Top 5 End-of-Term Questions

Amanda Lagoe, assistant registrar

It has been a long semester full of late nights and hard work, and now you are anxiously awaiting your final grade to put the semester behind you. Whether it’s your first term or your last term as a SUNY Empire student, you may have questions, and the Office of the Registrar has answers. Check out five of the most commonly asked end-of-term questions and our responses. Your question might be among them!

  1. When will my grade be available?
  2. Where can I view my grades?

It takes a lot of time to grade all your great work at the end of the term. Although you’re anxious to see the grade as soon as possible, your instructor requires time to grade. Select the term bookmark on the academic calendar to see the grading due date for each session. If the grading due date passes and you have not received a grade (an NG outcome will show on your transcript), please contact your instructor as soon as possible.

Your unofficial transcript is the best place to view your grades. Located on your Student Profile in Self-Service Banner, your unofficial transcript is the most comprehensive view of your academic record that you can access at any time. In addition to grades, your unofficial transcript provides both your term and cumulative GPAs and lists your upcoming registrations. If you have not accessed your unofficial transcript yet, you can view step-by-step instructions here.

Although it is tempting to use Moodle to view your final grades, you should use Moodle only to view your course grades during the term; sometimes what displays in Moodle may not match what is on your unofficial transcript. This discrepancy occurs if you have dropped a class before or during the term. Unlike Moodle, your unofficial transcript will always accurately reflect your academic record.

  1. Why did I get this grade?
  2. How do I know if I made it on the Dean’s List?

Contact your instructor if you have any questions about your grade. Your instructor will be able to provide additional information. The Office of the Registrar can only view the final grade that your instructor submitted. We cannot tell you why you received a particular grade—only your instructor can do that.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, you must be an undergraduate student taking a minimum of four graded credits in a term and earn a term GPA of 3.75 or higher. It is important to note that an incomplete (IN) or an administrative withdrawal (ZW) will make you ineligible. The Dean’s List is generated after the grading due date has passed, so you can expect to see it on your unofficial transcript shortly after that. You’ll receive a congratulatory email with a link to your certificate in the following weeks.

  1. How do I order a transcript?

You can order a physical or electronic transcript by visiting our transcript request page.
