Internship Opportunity – Social Media/Digital Marketing Intern Scholars Internship Program

Chisholm Center for Equity Studies is to examine the persistent present-day cultural, political, and societal inequities that derive from the legacies of colonialism and Black enslavement. The center conducts solutions-oriented, interdisciplinary research offers community-based educational programming, and informs better policy to drive social progress.
Internship Description
The Social Media/Digital Marketing Intern is responsible for coordinating and executing the center’s social media strategy, working across key social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. This role offers the intern a total immersion into the strategic marketing plan of a center for higher education. The intern will work closely with the Office of Communications and Marketing and key members of staff to learn about the life and legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm. Additionally, the student will learn about the best practices of social media, digital communications, and marketing in marketing to students, higher educational leaders, community members, and key stakeholders. This role will be instrumental in increasing the social media presence and gaining visibility for the Chisholm Center in critical educational markets. The student will have the creative flexibility to pitch and develop community ideas and events.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Work with the program manager to refine the social media strategy and best practices
- Assist in managing social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook) and editorial calendar to ensure content is timely, relevant, and engaging
- Draft weekly social media calendar
- Prepare weekly updates and reports to track growth and success rates of campaigns
- Stay up to date and informed on new social media trends and adapt accordingly
- Ensure proper messaging is being executed online
- Identify leaders and influencers and engage them in brand activities

Qualifications
- Be currently enrolled matriculated student in the liberal arts or have equivalent work experience
- Understand and be able to utilize emerging platforms, digital media, and web/social media management and measurement tools such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics.
- Take the initiative, employ sound judgment, and manage projects from beginning to end
- Have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Have exceptional attention to detail
- Meet deadlines and anticipate next steps or needs
- Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Be available for a minimum of 10-12 hours a week remotely with a weekly virtual meeting
- Have a strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
