Dr. Bridget Nettleton Memorial Healthcare Scholarship
Bridget Nettleton, Ph.D. was the founding dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health at Empire State University. Her efforts to support the field of nursing helped bridge the gap between healthcare and academia, built a pipeline for new nurses, promoted nurse retention and advancement, and provided opportunities to diversify the profession.
When she passed away in January 2024, David ’13, ’17 and Susan ’16 Theobald established the Dr. Bridget Nettleton Memorial Healthcare Scholarship to honor her tremendous work in the field of nursing. Members of the university and healthcare community soon followed, making additional gifts to honor Bridget and expand the reach of the scholarship.
“We believe that investing in the education and development of aspiring healthcare professionals is crucial for the betterment of our communities and the advancement of the healthcare industry,” David Theobald said. “Dr. Nettleton's dedication to nurturing talent and fostering excellence in the field serves as a shining example for us all. Through these scholarships, we honor her memory by empowering students to follow their dreams and make a positive impact in the world of nursing and allied health sciences.”
Eligibility
Students who meet the Empire State University Foundation’s scholarship eligibility criteria may be considered for the Dr. Bridget Nettleton Memorial Healthcare Scholarship. The scholarship may be automatically renewed until completion of their degrees. The submission of a FAFSA and the 8-credit prerequisite may be waived for nursing students. The scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Nursing and Allied Health.
Preference is given to students who have an associate degree through the Joint Nursing Degree Program at Nassau Community College, or other pipeline nursing programs, and students who enhance diversity in the field of nursing.
