Fake news isn't new, (John Adams used fake news in 1769 to undermine the British), but fake news is currently an online epidemic. In this interactive nearpod presentation, you'll be shown tools that you can use with your students to help them tell the difference between fake news and legitimate news.

So your school's administration decides it needs to "do something" about equity, but no one seems sure where to begin.

This presentation offers an approach for setting priorities within the context of DEI. Three core values inform the approach: ownership, building momentum, and coherence. Participants will leave with a vision for asset-based planning as well as handouts and practical tools for setting priorities. The presentation will be of interest to leaders concerned with getting things done.

Augmented reality (AR) is an up-and-coming area within the field of educational technology. Augmented realities run on context-aware technologies which allow users to interact with digital information situated within a physical environment. Context-aware technologies like smartphones, and tablets with situational information can interact with the space around a user. The opportunities to use AR in an educational setting are endless, however there are limitations to consider.

This presentation takes into account the shift from face-to-face learning, to technology-based learning during the pandemic. It then reviews the affordances and limitations of augmented reality uses in learning. Finally, participants are provided with effective strategies to implement augmented reality in various settings to best address the specific needs and interests of their own learners.

COVID has taught educators that we need to be flexible and that a remote/hybrid learning model is one that will carry on after the pandemic ends. The necessity for creating a learning experience that is engaging and  connects the real and virtual worlds will be a necessity moving forward. Gather.town is a platform that brings many of those activities that one would expect of a virtual technology platform such as bringing in files and posting videos. But what sets it apart is there are many other components that foster building a community by increasing interpersonal communication between students/staff, offering collaborative opportunities/activities once reserved for the in-person learning space.

Gather.town is designed to have a low bar of entry for beginners/no-coders and the capability to meet the needs of experienced coders. Designing a space is easy and navigating Gather.town is fun, and unlike anything I have tried before.

The presentation will be designed to allow for the exploring of some spaces I have designed, a quick tutorial on how to design your first space, and time permitting, questions and answer session.
