(SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- March 22, 2024) Thank YOU for going Higher for Empire!

Empire State University’s 2024 Day of Giving was a success!

The goal of this 24-hour challenge is to bring the university community together and increase opportunities for current and future students, all during the university’s Annual Meeting -- which presents a unique opportunity for faculty and staff to come together and share their research, success, and innovation at Empire State University.

285 people donated from 15 different states, with a total of $121,586 going directly to our students, faculty, and academic programming!

“I’m thrilled by the response and grateful to all the employees who stepped up,” Marly Norris, vice president for advancement, said. “I’m inspired by the heartfelt response to the Bridget Nettleton scholarship.”

In addition to the usual areas of giving, the university introduced the Nettleton Memorial Scholarship in honor of Dr. Bridget Nettleton and an opportunity to triple donations through a $50,000 match from David and Susan Theobald. The scholarship honors Dr. Nettleton’s work in the field of nursing, bridging the gap between health care and academia by supporting nursing education, building a pipeline for new nurses, and promoting nurse retention and advancement in the field.

Empire State University surpassed its goal with $86,131 going towards future nursing students. An anonymous donor and Susan Dake, Empire State University Foundation board member and president of the Stewart’s Foundation at Stewart’s Shops, each donated $10,000 each to the Nettleton Memorial Scholarship.

The campaign was driven by SUNY Empire’s social media accounts featuring activities, challenges, and giveaways throughout the day. Every gift, no matter how much, makes a difference here at Empire State University.
