Purpose
To provide a description of the parameters for the faculty reading period
Definitions
Faculty reading period: a period of shifted professional responsibilities usually scheduled in the month of August
Statements
The faculty reading period, usually scheduled in the month of August, is a period
of shifted professional responsibilities, rather than a vacation period. It is to
be used by faculty to further their own professional development. Faculty are not
at liberty to accept remunerative employment elsewhere, except subject to the same
restrictions that apply throughout the rest of the year.
In calculating the dates for an enrollment that bridges the reading period, the end
date of the enrollment is extended by four weeks. This additional time does not count
as instructional time since credit cannot be earned during the reading period.
