December Welcome

December Welcome

By Danielle Boardman, Coordinator of Student Life

Hey SUNY Empire Students, Office of Student Engagement here and we are excited to tell you about some of our 2023 events, our signature events to be exact.

No matter how you study, we offer you the opportunity to network and interact with students across the college through virtual and in-person events. You can create an online community, engage in your town, and visit your local SUNY Empire location.

Up first in 2023, will be our Spring Student Conference. This in-person event will be held at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY from April 13 to 15, so SAVE THE DATE! This conference is one of the largest student events that SUNY Empire hosts and will include sessions on leadership development, careers, professional development, and health and wellness. Additionally, you can learn the skills needed to move into the work force, work towards a professional promotion, and/or increase your knowledge and understanding of today's professional environment. This student event also gives you the opportunity to present on an academic subject matter or a topic you’re passionate about. Once your proposal is approved, the stage will be yours!

Registration for the Spring Student Conference, the application to apply for a Travel Grant, and the ability to submit a proposal will launch on January 19.

And as we look to the Fall 2023 semester, we will be welcoming each of you into our locations in September for our Fall Student Kick-Off! The Kick-Off allows you to come into a college location, meet fellow students and staff, create connections, and learn about the services, engagement opportunities, and resources available. All students are invited and encouraged to attend this family-friendly event. We hope to see you there!

In November 2023, we celebrate you during our Non-Traditional Student week! This week-long celebration is an opportunity to highlight you, our remarkable students who often juggle the competing responsibilities of work, family, and life while pursuing their educational goals here at SUNY Empire.

In addition to our three signature events, the Office of Student Engagement promotes involvement in student organizations, college events, workshops, and discussions across the state and online. On average, students  involved in their college are more successful, so join us!

We are here for you! Stay tuned and check your email for our event announcements.
