Student Activity Fee Referendum Approved

We are pleased to report that students voted to keep the Student Activity Fee (SAF) mandatory, with more than 67% of voters in favor of the referendum. As a result, the SAF will remain mandatory until 2024, at which time we will hold another referendum. 

Thanks to the many students who voted to keep the fee mandatory. The current fee is $35 per term, the lowest and best value in SUNY. 

The SAF provides funding for curricular and co-curricular student activities and supports, such as weekly SUNY Empire Connects sessions, the annual student conference, career services, student clubs, commencements, the fall student kick-off, non-traditional student week, scholarships, lectures, and more. A vote of “yes” on this important referendum allows future students to continue to receive the same fund benefits. 

The SAF Committee, which is comprised of students from throughout the state, will soon begin the process of receiving and reviewing funding requests for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
